This project is part of a statewide survey to help scientists understand the prevalence and spread of this dangerous pathogen. All of the samples brought in will be tested and results collated and entered in a database that will form the basis for further action to be taken throughout the state. Help us save our oak trees. You must complete a 30 minute online training before attending this Zoom event, which will cover safety, SOD basics, symptoms found on Tanoak and California Bay Laurel leaves, and sampling protocols.
Collection Materials come in packets, and may be received one of two ways:
- Submit your address and we will mail them to you; For this, registration must be submitted by Friday, April 23, OR
- Pick them up at a table outside the UCCE Sonoma Office between 10:30AM-12:30PM on Saturday, May 1st. The UCCE Sonoma office is located at: 133 Aviation Blvd Suite 109, Santa Rosa, CA 95403
You will mail in your leaf samples (in pre-addressed, postage paid envelopes that will be provided) to the lab at UC Berkeley to be tested for SOD, free of charge. Sample envelopes must be postmarked to UC Berkeley before or on Tuesday, May 4. Results of the testing will be available in the fall and presented at a community meeting to which all blitz participants will be invited.
This Zoom event will start with short presentations and demos about the pathogen, past blitz findings, and how to collect. We will then open it up for Q&A, where you can get clarification about what you've learned and how to successfully collect leaves on your own and submit them for laboratory testing.
No previous experience or knowledge is required. This event is recommended for adults, or ages 10 and up with adult guidance.
Zoom meeting details will be sent to you upon registration. If you have not used Zoom before, please allow time to download and install the application before the event. Please log-in a few minutes early, as it may take more than one attempt if servers are busy.

Deberá completar un entrenamiento de 30 minutos antes de asistir a este evento por Zoom, el cual cubrirá la seguridad, los conceptos básicos de SOD, los síntomas presente en las hojas de Tanoak y de California Bay Laurel, además de los protocolos de muestreo.
Los materiales de recolección vienen en paquetes y se pueden recibir de dos maneras:
- Entregando su dirección y se la enviaremos por correo. Para esto, la inscripción debe enviarse antes del viernes 23 de abril
- Recogiendolos en una mesa fuera de la oficina de UCCE Sonoma entre las 10:30 a.m. y las 12:30 p.m. el sábado 1 de mayo. La oficina de UCCE Sonoma está ubicada en: 133 Aviation Blvd Suite 109, Santa Rosa, CA 95403
Envié por correo sus muestras de hojas (en los sobres proporcionados con la dirección y franqueo pagado) al laboratorio de UC Berkeley para que se les realice la prueba de SOD, sin cargo. Los sobres de muestra deben tener su sello postal para UC Berkeley antes del día martes 4 de mayo o el mismo día. Los resultados de las pruebas estarán disponibles en otoño y se presentarán en una reunión comunitaria a la que se invitará a todos los participantes del Blitz.
El evento por Zoom comenzaremos con breves presentaciones y demostraciones sobre el patógeno, hallazgos de campañas anteriores y la recolección.
