SSU students presented the results of their scientific research during the 2012-13 academic year at SSU Science Symposium. Students and faculty engaged in the WATERS Collaborative presented their work alongside student research from other departments on campus.

Sonoma State University celebrated a year of water with a special reception entitled "Make a Splash." The reception in SSU's Person Theatre highlighted SSU's campus-wide "Water Works" initiatve, a series of performances, lectures and events surrounding our relationship with this unique substance.

Tom Buckley, Biology, has received $3,000 in funding from the WATERS Collaborative for his proposal "Leaf Physiology Spot Measurement Instrument", where students will use purchased sensor components to construct instruments that measure leaf physiology in riparian vegetation.

The Sonoma County Youth Ecology Corps project at SSU was launched thanks to WATERS, a new campus partnership with the Sonoma County Water Agency (SCWA). Seven members of the Sonoma County Youth Ecology Corps worked diligently over the summer to clear the Himalayan blackberry that is choking out native species along Copeland Creek on campus and at the Fairfield Osborn Preserve.
