SSU y Latino Outdoors les invita a una caminata familiar bilingüe junto a un grupo naturalistas por el bosque. Estudiantes de SSU se unirán con Latino Outdoors para llevar el gran mundo al aire libre a residentes de Anderson Valley y sus alrededores mientras caminamos y aprendemos sobre cómo acampar en la naturaleza con seguridad y compartirán consejos sobre qué equipo utilizar. Nuestro día incluirá una caminata moderada de 3 millas a lo largo del recientemente restaurado sendero de High Meadow en el corazón de la reserva, un almuerzo tipo picnic y una descripción general de consejos para acampar, seguido de un sorteo gratuito. SSU and Latino Outdoors invite you to a bilingual guided family hike with a naturalist team in the woods. Students from SSU will join Latino Outdoors to bring the great outdoors to residents of Anderson Valley and beyond as we hike and learn about nature-camping safety and equipment tips. The day will include a three-mile moderate hike along the newly restored High Meadow Trail in the heart of the preserve, a picnic lunch and a Camping 101 overview followed by a free raffle of an REI two-person tent!

Aunque las personas latinas e hispanas son uno de los segmentos de mayor rápido crecimiento de población en los Estados Unidos, con casi un 19%, sólo representan un 11% de las personas quienes practican actividades al aire libre con regularidad (las personas blancas componen un 72%). Una de las razones de esto es el limitado acceso a la naturaleza de varias comunidades latinas, la falta de transporte público, el costoso valor del equipo y un sentimiento de inseguridad de no ser bienvenido en los espacios al aire libre. Caminaremos por prados y bosques, aprendiendo sobre el mundo natural que nos rodea y regresarémos para hacer un picnic en el histórico granero cerca del arroyo Ranchería, un afluente del río Navarro. Durante la caminata trabajaremos con iNaturalist, una aplicación telefónica de ciencia ciudadana que ayuda a identificar especies de animales y plantas y registra sus avistamientos para el uso de investigaciones científicas. Después de disfrutar el almuerzo, estudiantes del Club de Outdoors Pursuits de SSU hablarán sobre cómo maximizar la diversión y seguridad al acampar, demostrando cómo montar diferentes tipo de carpas y explicando sobre otros tipos de equipamiento necesarios para una gran experiencia acampando. Though Latinx and Hispanic people are one of the fastest growing segments of the U.S. population at nearly 19 percent, they only make up about 11 percent of people who regularly do outdoor recreation (white people make up 72 percent). Reasons for this include limited access to nature in many Latinx communities, lack of public transportation, expensive gear fees and feeling unsafe and unwelcome in the outdoors. We will walk through meadows and forests, learning about the natural world around us, and return to picnic at an historic barn near the Rancheria Creek, a tributary of the Navarro River. On the walk we will work with iNaturalist, a citizen science phone app that helps you identify species of animals and plants and records your sightings for researchers to use. After enjoying our lunch, SSU students from our Outdoor Pursuits Club will talk about how to maximize the fun and safety of camping out, showing us how to pitch various types of tents and going over the other equipment you will need for a wonderful camping experience. As the day winds down, we will raffle off a camping gear package!
Logistíca / Logistics
Nos encontraremos a las 10:00 am en la oficina de correos de Yorkville ubicada en 25400 Highway 128, entre Boonville y Cloverdale. Ahí formaremos grupos de viaje para vehículos con AWD o 4-WD (todoterreno) para conducir hacia la reserva. Si usted cuenta con un vehículo 4x4 (tracción en 4 ruedas) y está dispuesto a conducir, por favor indíquelo en el formulario de inscripción. Todos los participantes deberán firmar una forma de autorización (waiver form) a su llegada. Todos los menores de edad deberán ser acompañados por un guardián legal. No se permiten mascotas y se prohíbe fumar. Caminaremos por un sendero de 3 millas con un desnivel de 300 ft. El uso de bastones puede ser útil, aunque la caminata no es particularmente agotadora.
We will meet at 10:00am at the Yorkville post office at 25400 Highway 128, between Boonville and Cloverdale. There we will form carpools in AWD or 4-WD vehicles to drive up to the preserve. If you have a 4x4 and are willing to drive, please indicate that on the registration form. Participants must sign a waiver upon arrival. All minors must be accompanied by a legal guardian. Pets and smoking are not permitted. We will be walking on a three-mile trail with an altitude gain of about 300 feet. Walking sticks might be helpful, but it is not particularly strenuous.

Llevar sombrero, zapatos resistentes para la caminata, pantalones largos, camisa mangas largas, protección solar y para insectos. Estaremos en presencia de hiedra venenosa (poison oak) y garrapatas (ticks). Traiga su agua y el almuerzo será proporcionado por Latino Outdoors.
Wear a hat, sturdy shoes for hiking, long pants, long sleeves and sun and insect protection. Poison oak and ticks are present. Bring water and Latino Outdoors will provide lunch.
