Seawolves Dig In: Creek & Garden Restoration

Earth Week is here! Join our Copeland Creek & Garden Restoration team for the second annual Seawolves Dig In, an opportunity to participate in hands-on gardening projects across campus in collaboration with other members of the SSU community. Our team will help by weeding, removing ivy, and rehoming logs from the stream. Come meet other faculty, staff, and students who want to make a difference for our environment -- last year President Lee was on our team! Morning refreshments and post-event pizza will be provided.

Leaders

  • Heidi Herrmann, Lecturer, Department of Geography, Environment, and Planning; Copeland Creek Restoration Project & Native Plant Garden Supervisor
  • Mimi Meacham, Student Assistant, SSU Copeland Creek Restoration Team

This event is presented in partnership with Facilities Management, Academic Affairs, and the President’s Sustainability Advisory Council (PSAC).

Logistics

We will meet at the Wine Spectator building for rallying, group photo, and to get hats. This building is located on the northeast side of campus, on the north side of the grassy quad. We recommend parking in lot G (click here then select "Sonoma State" to purchase a Daily Parking Permit in advance), or traveling by bicycle or public transportation

Heavy rain may cancel, but please prepare for light rain. Smoking and tobacco products are not permitted on the SSU campus.

COVID-19 Safety

Do not attend if you test positive for COVID-19 or if you have any symptoms that may be indicative of COVID-19, even if you are vaccinated. All SSU updated guidelines can be found here.

What to Bring

Please bring sun and light rain protection, a full water bottle, shoes appropriate for walking around gardens and dirt paths, and long pants for sitting/kneeling on the ground. Gloves and tools, but feel free to bring your own if you wish.

There is a restroom and potable water available at various places across campus.

How to Sign Up

See registration link below. Each person should register separately. To ensure that you get to work with our team, where it asks if you have any questions on the bottom of the registration form, write that you'd like to work with Heidi's team at the creek.

Please register by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24 to receive additional logistical details. Sustainable SSU baseball caps will be provided to the first 150 folks to sign up, and each person will be assigned to a team based on their preferred tasks. No experience or equipment is needed! This event is recommended for ages 15 and up, and is free of charge.
