The North Bay fires provided a stark reminder that we live, work and play in fire ecology. As our community struggled to recover, the North Bay Forward Initiative was created as a collaboration between Sustainable North Bay and Sonoma State. Its purpose: to harness the collective talent, vision, and experience of a range of business, community, public sector and academic leaders to envision a stronger future and engage in the systemic change and collaboration needed to usher in a sustainable, resilient North Bay community.

We held a visioning charrette (brainstorming with intent) with Geography, Environment and Planning (GEP 206) students in December 2018, to visualize a sustainable and resilient future for Sonoma State and Sonoma County. Students identified a vision for campus in the areas of sustainable infrastructure, natural systems, community engagement, and academic experience. The information will be included in campus planning as part of the Presidents' Climate Leadership Commitment.
