Resilience to climate change in the wine industry

Resilience to climate change in the wine industry

In recent years natural disasters have had a huge impact on agriculture. To what extent are wine business managers prepared? We interviewed a manager and lower-level employee at each of four wineries in Napa and Sonoma Counties. Interviews were used to gather qualitative communication data about factors affecting the preparedness of wineries to natural disasters. We found that both professional and personal factors affected the level of preparedness, and that those wineries without disaster preparedness plans had started working on on putting one one in place. Results will be presented at local wine industry conferences and at conferences in Bordeaux, France, Stellenbosch, South Africa, Vancouver, and Canada.
